Mohenjodaro means the mound of the dead. This city in South Asia is considered to be the oldest city. This old city was built in such an orderly manner that you cannot even imagine it. It was built in Pakistan ‘Sindh’ about 4600 years ago. When the historian excavated Mohenjodaro, large buildings, water tanks, beautiful paintings, pottery and metal utensils, mudras, sculptures, bricks, carved stones, and many more were found in it. Friends, it shows that an orderly town was inhabited here. Just like we all live in homes today, similarly 4600 years ago, the people of Mohan Jodro lived in their homes, also used to do farming. Many people are excited to know this secret buried under the soil, for this reason many times the excavation of Mohan Jodaro started and stopped.
According to historians, the city was inhabited by about 200 hectares. It is believed that so far only one third of it has come before us in excavation. Pakistan is considered a national icon due to this ancient civilization. In 1856, an English engineer discovered Mohenjodaro while constructing a railway route. While constructing the railway track, this engineer was removing the stones so that he could break these stones and make ballast, then he found here a very strong and old it, which looked exactly like the brick of today. The man there told him that all the houses here are made of the same brick which they find in the excavation. The engineer then understood that the city is connected to ancient history. This engineer first came to know about the ‘Indus Civilization’ near the Indus Valley.
Who ruled Mohenjo Daro
Being near the Indus River, it was named the Indus Valley Civilization. At the time of this ancient civilization another civilization also lived which was located in Egypt Greece. This has been said by archaeologists. The Indus Valley Civilization lived from 2600 BCE to 3000 BCE. There were also some urban centers in this ancient civilization… like Mohenjodaro, Harappa Lothal, Kali Fungal, Dholavira, Rakhi Guards. Mohenjodaro was the most developed city in it. At that time it was considered to be the most developed and most modern city, so archaeologists first started its discovery. And tried to gather more information about it. After this Harappa was a city which was built in advance (modern) manner.
Friends, looking at Mohenjodaro, it seems that this city has been built by a successful civil engineer. But it was built by Urban Artisans. In 1900 BC, the Indus Valley civilization suddenly collapsed, then Mohenjodaro also disappeared.
The people living in these cities are not known, but friends, it seems as if the city of Mohenjodaro was built after complete planning. There was a thick brick wall around the city which was built for defense. Along with this, it was also discovered that some people also lived in brick houses which remained three-storeyed. Not only this, some houses also got bathrooms whose drains were made to drain the water.
It is believed that the construction of the first drain (drain) in the world was started from Mohenjodaro. According to historians, people here also used to do farming. He used to grow wheat, rice well. Not only that, they also used to follow animals. The discovery of Mohenjodaro by an Indian in 1922 AD, Rakhal Das Banerjee, who was the patron of the Department of Archeology, carried out excavations along the banks of the Indus River in Pakistan. He first saw the Buddha’s stupa there and after that he feared that there is definitely a great history buried in this place. In order to increase this discovery, ‘Kashinath Narayan’ in 1924 and ‘John Marshall’ in 1925 AD got the excavation done. Till 1985 AD, it was made the work of excavation of Mohenjodaro by different people of India. But after this the search had to be stopped because the reason was that due to the excavation nature is being damaged.
