Reason for Partition of INDIA-PAKISTAN | Part-4

Now India was divided but the Indo-Pakistan borderline was told after 15 August. People had come to know about the fragmentation of Punjab, but Lahore would never go to Pakistan. At that time there used to be a lot of Hindus in Lahore and soon after the decision came. They started tying their bags. Undivided India had a population of 39 crores in 1947 and after partition,33 crore people went to India. 3 crores to West Pakistan and 3 crores to East Pakistan (Bangladesh).

Once the borderline was fixed. About 1.5 crore people had to go from one side of the border to the other. The responsibility of security was very important. Now Mountbatten knew that riots could happen in such circumstances. So he had already sent half of his army to England. According to the figures of 1951, about 72 lakh people came from India to Pakistan. In which the entire population was of Muslim people. On the other hand, 72 lakh people came from Pakistan to India, the mostly Hindu and Sikh communities. Many Muslim refugees still sat at the Red Fort ready to go to Pakistan.

Citizens celebrate India’s independence from British rule in the streets of Calcutta.

In such a situation, there was widespread violence and massacre on both sides of the border. According to the data. It was difficult to estimate the number of deaths. Yet it is believed that the number of deaths was between 2 lakh to 10 lakh. Mountbatten knew the real figures, but he had reduced the number of deaths. So that he could not be held responsible for the deaths in the division. Lakhs of people were walking from one country to another. People were walking in a line about 10 kilometers long. The elders and children were made to sit in the bullgadio, but the youth was walking on foot. The government was dropping food from the plane for food, but it was not enough for such a large population and thousands of people died on the way due to hunger and water.

At that time, the government ran a train from Ambala to Amritsar, in which lakhs of people came from one side to the other. At times, the rebels were entering the railways killing people and looting them. Filled with dead bodies, the train was going across the border and there was a scene that no one could see. Now refugee camps were set up on both sides of the border, in which arrangements were made for people to stay and eat. At that time 2 percent population in India was Refugee and about 10 lakh Refugees were staying in Delhi alone. The largest refugee camp was set up near Kurukshetra, in which around 35000 refugees were staying. After that slowly pucca houses and money were arranged for these refugia.

On the other hand, more than 80 percent of the population of Pakistan was refugees. For whom it was very difficult to arrange. This is the reason that Pakistan is a poor country because the people there started their life from 1947 and due to lack of resources they could not develop properly. Many Muslims from the Muslim regions of India migrated to Pakistan. In which about 7 lakh people from Bihar, Bengal, and Orissa, 4.5 lakh people from Delhi, 1.6 lakh people from Gujarat and Bombay, 95 thousand from Bhopal and Hyderabad and 18 thousand from Madras and Mysore. He went to Pakistan. The people of Punjab had to compromise the most. In this way, lakhs of people from both countries have moved here and many people died in this division.

Now, as you were told, Junagadh of Gujarat first joined Pakistan but was merged with India in 1948. Now Hyderabad also wanted to create its own independent nation, so at that time it was neither merged with India nor merged with Pakistan. At that time, the people of Hyderabad wanted to merge with India, but the Nizam of Hyderabad was adamant about his word. The Nizam of Hyderabad asked for one year for the final decision. Now a year later on 13 September 1948, the Indian Army started sending its troops towards Hyderabad. Nizam came to know that his small army would not be able to compete with India, so on 17 September 1948, the Nizam of Hyderabad surrendered and Hyderabad was merged with India and the Nizam Shahi was overthrown.

Jammu and Kashmir

Now only Jammu and Kashmir remained which was neither in India nor in Pakistan. At that time, Maharaja Hari Singh was ruling Jammu and Kashmir. Now, immediately after India’s independence. Pakistan attacked on 22 October 1947. But Jammu and Kashmir did not have enough army to defeat Pakistan. So it immediately sought help from the Home Minister of India Vallabhbhai Patel. At first, Vallabhbhai Patel refused, saying why should he help Jammu and Kashmir when he is not a part of India? On the request of Maharaja Hari Singh, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel said. I will provide assistance only on the condition that Jammu and Kashmir will have to merge with India. Now Maharaja Hari Singh had no choice and signed the documents to be merged in India.

As soon as Jammu and Kashmir merged with India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel immediately sent his army to the border of Jammu and Kashmir. Now the Indian Army had driven the Pakistani army to Lahore and the army believed that on getting orders, they would also capture Lahore. Then Jawaharlal Nehru declared a ceasefire without consulting Vallabhbhai Patel and asked him to return the territories occupied by Pakistan. In this way, India had lost the opportunity to occupy the territories of Pakistan but Jammu and Kashmir had merged with India. Jammu and Kashmir had merged with India but the northern part of Jammu and Kashmir had become a disputed territory on which the United Nations Was condemned.

So, friends, this is how the present form of India and Pakistan was created. After this, there were three wars between India and Pakistan in 1965, 1971 and 1999 and India won in all three wars. India had also fought with China for the Aksai-Chin region of Jammu and Kashmir, but a total war was declared and the Indian Army was not ready at that time and India was defeated. Aksai-Chin became part of China. So, friends, you saw in the story of the partition of India, how the leaders killed millions for power.

Friends, there may be an error in my Indo-Pak partition story because of the facts and figures, because I am not a historian but I presented to you what I saw from my perspective on the partition of India. I do not consider any person special but all the greedy leaders of power are responsible for this division. In this way, one end of my article Jai Hind Jai Bharat
